Malta Restaurant Review – Saturday 26th December 2015

LW and I went to Terrone for lunch. We first came across this place a while ago when we stopped there for coffee one morning. We liked the look of it so came back for lunch and boy, are we glad we did.

We sat outside on the small terrace in the warm sunshine. There are about half a dozen tables set up on the terrace and it is bordered on one side by a bar overlooking the pavement, with stools to provide extra outdoor seating. The terrace was packed although the indoor restaurant seemed quieter. The service was friendly and welcoming and the restaurant had a happy atmosphere.

The menu apparently changes daily according to what’s fresh and available. The menu is heavily weighted towards fish and shellfish so if you’re not a fan, your choices are limited. The food was excellent. I had seared scallops with a cauliflower puree and crumbled pancetta. The scallops were perfectly cooked; caramelised on the outside but perfectly soft inside. For my main I had pasta (like spaghettini) with red mullet, olives and cherry tomatoes – delicious. LW started with fried calamari then had pan fried quail with salad and roasted potatoes. It was all super! The food cost €50, good value for the quality.

On this experience we have put Terrone firmly in our premier league of Maltese restaurants and we can’t wait to go back.
