Tonight was our seventh visit to Trabuxu. It is by far and away our favourite restaurant in Valletta but that said, we haven’t tried many other restaurants there because we keep going back to Trabuxu! We have friends visiting Malta at the moment so there were four of us at dinner. Our friends, who have eaten at many fine restaurants around the world, describe Trabuxu as, “Absolutely fantastic.” We agree. It’s not fine dining in the traditional sense but the food is great, the room cosy and quirky and the service is fantastic; fun, friendly and funny and efficient all at the same time. It is a happy place, a real feel-good restaurant.
The menu offers a mix of starters ranging from fish to salads to parfaits, various pasta dishes, mains including meats, duck, chicken and fish and various desserts, all homemade. Trabuxu always has a good choice of specials as well so there really is something for everyone. Tonight we had a goats’ cheese and beetroot salad, chicken liver parfait, pasta with rabbit livers, a rib eye steak, confit of duck, a veal chop and grilled lampuki, all served with sides of scalloped potatoes and cauliflower cheese. We finished with apple crumble with ice cream and chocolate and hazelnut tart also with ice cream. Every dish was delicious.
We washed everything down with a couple of bottles of Laurenti cabernet sauvignon and sparkling water. It all came to €50 a head which was good value.
LW first stumbled upon Trabuxu last December and we are very glad she did. It is one of our top five restaurants in Malta and a must for anyone looking for a great restaurant experience.
